Executive Summary

The purpose of the Hot Water Vapour Project (HWVP) was to develop a new technology to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity, while improving recovery from conventional and non-conventional resources. HWVP will result in lower GHG emissions, and minimizes both water usage and land impact compared to alternative EOR approaches for heavy oil resources in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The successful commercialization of a new heavy oil EOR technology could potentially open the door for adapting the same technology to oil sands.
