Blocking surface case vent flows and permanently plugging and abandoning wells represent a massive cost to industry as well as taxpayers. Given these unprecedented times, it is critical that remediation as well as P&A is cost effective, environmentally friendly, easy to use and provides a permanent solution. Presented will be two related technologies that meet these challenging criteria.
Mike McDonald of National Silicates will present on development of a next generation sodium silicate as a solids-free material for sealing and blocking vent flows and gas migration. The presentation will include case histories, cost and placement techniques. Eric van Oort of the University of Texas will present on the material properties of geopolymers and their readiness for primary cementing and P&A operations in the Canadian market.
